Library Research - The Process

Follow the tabs above to help you successfully complete the research process.  

  1. Select your topicWrite down key concepts or subject terms for your topic.
  2. Find background information: encyclopedias, and other reference books if necessary.
  3. Know your information formats: different types of resources have different advantages and disadvanages.  
  4. Search for sources: 
    1. books
    2. journal articles
    3. information online
  5. Evaluate your information Think critically!
  6. Cite your sources: Determine the appropriate citation style, i.e. APA, MLA, Chicago
  7. Start writing your paper: consider your major topics, style, & grammar.
