About us

We have two campus libraries, one at our Fairview Campus and the other at our Grande Prairie Campus. Each library offers books, videos, journals, study space, computer access, and many more resources and services. Our staff are here to help you succeed!

Interlibrary loan: Ask us to borrow something for you!

Interlibrary Loan service allows our library users (GPRC students, staff and faculty) to request and obtain:

  • articles that are not available full-text in our databases
  • books that are not held in the NEOS library system

If a book is available from a NEOS library (you see it in the catalogue, but not at GPRC)
you can place a NEOS request for it by clicking on the “Place Hold” link.

How do I make an ILL request?

  • In the the databases and/or A-to-Z list use whichever ILL link is provided.  This usually populates the ILL request form for you; it automatically enters all the required information: title, author, issue, publication date, etc.

This is the ILL link found in the databases (left) and this is the ILL link found in the A-to-Z list (right) :

  • For books or other articles not found in the databases you can fill out a blank ILL request form by doing the following:
    • Click on Interlibrary Loan
    • Log in with your barcode (found on back of your student ID card) and PIN (last four digits of barcode)
    • Choose the appropriate link (Article / Book / etc.) under "Add Request", complete and submit the form
    • You will receive a confirmation email with a "PAT" number that is assigned to your particular request.  This email will be sent to your GPRC email account.

How long it takes for Interlibrary loan requests to arrive at the GPRC Library depends on different factors, e.g.:

  • how quickly the requests are processed
  • the availability of materials at other library
  • the postal service (in the case of books)

Start your research early

  • Turnaround time for articles is a minimum of three (3) business days.
  • Book requests could take much longer than that.

To avoid unnecessary waiting, prior to submitting an ILL request please confirm your desired material is:

  • not already available for request in the NEOS library catalogue
  • not already availalbe full-text from our databases
  • not already available from open source online resources

To track you ILL requests, you need to log into your ILL account.

You can see the status of your requests by following the appropriate links under My Requests:

Click on the + sign at each PAT number to display the request information:

By following the History link within that window, you can see the exact status of your request and any messages or notes:

Please contact the Library Service Desk or email if you need help deciphering this information or if you wish any help with your interlibrary loan requests.

How will you know when the material has arrived and is available for pick up?  After your interlibrary loan request has been processed there are two types of email messages sent to your GPRC email account:

  1. Notification that the request cannot be filled and has been cancelled
  2. Notification that the requested material is available for you to use:
  • That the article is available for download from a link within the notification email
  • That the book has arrived and is available for pick up at the Library Service Desk

To avoid having your ILL email notifications ending up in your spam folder, please add the following email addresses to your contact list:

How long do you have to pick up your interlibrary loan materials?

  • Books will be held for you for one week.  If you do not pick them up, they will be sent back.
  • Links for downloading article pdfs are live for two weeks from the time of posting and the sending of the email notification.
    • You must access and download your requested article within this time frame.
    • You are permitted to download the article a maximum of three (3) times.
    • Make sure your browser allows pop-ups from
  • Article downloads are yours to keep.
    • The emailed link will expire in two (2) weeks OR after three (3) downloads (whichever comes first).
  • Books will need to be returned to the Library Service Desk in two (2) weeks' time.
    • Recalls from the owning library might shorten your loan period or make it impossible to renew the item.
    • If you wish to renew an interlibrary loan book, you must contact the University of Alberta's ILL department directly: 780-491-3795 or
