About the Multimedia Lab

Friday                      8:00am-6:00pm
Saturday-Sunday       8:00am-9:00pm

The Multimedia Lab supports students, faculty and staff in using multimedia technology to enhance their learning and teaching experience.

The Lab offers access to:

  • (3) Windows 7 multimedia workstations
  • Flatbed scanners with 35mm film and slide capability
  • Audio & video duplicating suite
  • Audio, photo and video editing software
  • Library of copyright-free images, sound effects and music.

Our Digital Production Technician assists lab patrons in using the lab’s resources, so that those patrons may develop their own multimedia skills and leave with a finished project.

 

Multimedia Lab Services

Colour Scanning

  • Scan images in B/W or colour from paper, 35mm slides or negatives
  • Scan documents into editable text files or MS Word docs
  • Package multiple scans into highly-portable PDF files
  • Software: CutePDF Writer, IrfanView 32, Paint.NET, Scansoft OmniPage

Audio Editing

  • Capture audio from audiocassette, CD, DVD or microphone
  • Combine sounds, speech and music into edited programs
  • Output finished projects to CD, DVD or web-ready files
  • Software: Audacity and Corel VideoStudio Pro

Photo Editing

  • Quick image touchups or advanced photo-enhancement via software
  • Optimize images for printing, desktop publishing, web publishing or email
  • Software: IrfanView 32, Paint.NET

Video Editing

  • Capture video to the computer from 8mm, MiniDV, or VHS tape formats
  • Edit video in Storyboard mode (quick & easy) or Multi-track mode (powerful)
  • Output edited programs to VHS, DVD or web-ready files
  • Software: Corel VideoStudio Pro, Windows Live Movie Maker

Web Page Editing

  • Create web pages from MS Word or Powerpoint documents
  • Create web pages from scratch in Adobe Dreamweaver
  • Add images, sounds and video to your web pages
  • Software: Adobe Dreamweaver, MS Office

CD / DVD Creation

  • Create Audio, Data and Video CDs and DVDs
  • Create customized multilayer menus for Video DVDs
  • Software: Nero Burning ROM and Corel VideoStudio Pro

Tape and Disc Duplicating

  • Copy video from 8mm, MiniDV, U-matic and VHS tape formats or from DVD
  • Timebase corrector makes clear, bright copies from old videotape to VHS or DVD
  • Multiple-copy duplication of VHS tapes, CDs or DVDs available

Project Planning & Help

  • Technician assistance available in the Multimedia Lab Mon-Fri, 8:30am-4:30pm
  • Advice on planning and executing your multimedia project
  • Assistance with using our equipment and software to produce your project
