Top Tips

Treat an online course like it’s a “real” course– because it is. Your performance in online classes affects your ability to graduate and to perform the skills in a career.

✓ Hold yourself accountable. Set realistic goals and commit to them. Get a friend to help you stay on track.

✓ Practice time management. Stay in control of your learning and responsibilities by planning ahead.

✓ Create your workspace. Have a regular study space and stay organized.

✓ Branch out! Eliminate distractions. You don’t have a physical classroom, so learn and study in a space where you can focus.

✓ Establish a routine. Set up a daily well-balanced schedule that includes self-care, studying, exercising, learning and relaxing.

✓ Figure out how you learn best. Knowing your learning style will help you figure out strategies to help you learn.

✓ Actively participate. Ask questions. Form online groups. Ask questions in online lectures, or email your professor. Form online groups.

✓ Get support. Talk to friends or family. Seek services at your college.

✓ Do one thing at a time. Don’t try to multi-task assignments and other tasks; give each task your full attention.
